    Default How to do an AAR

    AAR = After Action Review

    The following questions are standard practice for any military style AAR.

    1. What was supposed to happen? :: Example - We were supposed to protect the president and escort from point a to point b.
    2. What did happen? :: Example - We got halfway to point b and we were attacked. President got shot in the head.
    3. What are 3 (or however many) sustains? :: Example - 1. We had good communication 2. We all scanned our assigned sectors of fire. 3. We set up into a proper formation
    4. What are 3 (or however many) improves? :: Example - 1. We scattered under fire 2. We didn't have a contingency plan for grenades 3. We didn't inform our snipers to sweep ahead.
    5. how can we fix the things that need improving? :: Example - 1. Work on react to fire while dismounted 2. create a standard operating procedure for incoming grenades

    This is the typical format and should be written down. This can be for one mission or the entire day.

    An AAR for an airsoft event should include a lot more than a critique of the actual "Action" though. There are a lot of factors involved in determining whether or not an airsoft game went well and how to improve it or not. Storyline, mission structure, level of immersion, camaraderie, these are just a few of the things I would like to know about last years game before I were to spend money to go.

    This could be used for not just each individual game, but the whole event. Literally all those elements of mission structure, camaraderie can be included in this format. whether there was a lot of spirit shown by all players it would be a Sustain. if not then improve. Realize you can go more than just 3 sustains and improves. One of these games I have to come down and give you guys a run through, plus its extra practice for me since i'll be off to WLC (Sergeant school).
